Avenoo Blues – Song 2

My second song is about Indiana Avenue, and the music

scene during the early to mid 1900s. Blues was one of

the popular genres during the Avenue’s heydays. The

song is written from the perspective of someone who

knew the saloons, bars, and juke joints during its golden

years, which is why they are singing the blues. They miss

the greatness that once was. I also did my darnedest to make

it sound as if it was recorded during that time period. Give it

a listen here.

Victory – Song 1

I can’t believe this is my first post of the new year.

On the other hand, I’ve been living my life more in

the real world instead of online, so I guess I can believe

it.

My most recent and exciting endeavor is my 10-week

music residency at the Harrison Center for the Arts. I’m

in the middle of my third week, and I have to write and

record one song per week. Each song must be placed-based,

so it has to be about Indianapolis in some way. My first song,

which you can listen to here, is about Lady Victory atop the

Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

This is my first attempt at recording all by myself, so it’s

not perfect but it’s a great learning experience. With that

said, it turned out pretty good. I definitely have a greater

respect for sound engineers. Make sure to give it a listen

and stay tuned for the next 9 songs.

Radio Show. House Show

Greetings. About a week and a half ago, I appeared on Indy In-Tune

Radio. It’s an internet, Indy-based, Independent music radio show.

I did an hour-long interview with Darrin (the host with the most), which

entailed 4 live tracks, lightning-round questioning, and some general

get-to-know-the-artist questions. It was a great time, and I hope to

connect more with Indy In-Tune. A link of the interview will be posted

shortly.

The same day, I had a house gig in Fountain Square, which is an up-and-

coming neighborhood in Indianapolis. The house gig was titled 3×5 House

Gig, because it contained three artists playing five new/ never-heard songs.

We probably had 50-60 people spread throughout three rooms of the house.

It was a lovely evening with local beer, wine from I don’t know where, fun

people, and sweet music.

I played three songs from my upcoming “LA” EP, and two from a potential

new album 🙂 Here are some photos from the day.

Performances

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you might have heard

me announce a couple events coming up on Saturday, March 14th.

I’ll be appearing on Indy In-Tune radio at 1:30PM (EST) and have

a 3×5 House Gig at 7:00PM.

The radio show will consist of an interview and performance where

I’ll play 4 tracks in the studio. The house gig consists of 3 artists

performing 5 songs for the first time, hence the name 3×5 House Gig.

I haven’t played a show for 2 or 3 months, so I’m excited to perform

twice in one day.

Instafun with Instagram

I don’t post much on social media compared to other 26 year olds,

but lately I’ve posted a few things on Instagram that I’ve enjoyed.

First was the Salvador Dali inspired self-portrait that I titled Salivador

Dali. Second was the guitar video I titled Footloose. My most recent

was today, when I decided to share a sliver of my rendition of Amazing

Grace I came up with about 3 or 4 years ago. I’m sure there will be more

to come in the future. For now, I’ve added a link to my Instagram page,

so you can follow.

Studio Update

Just a quick update, I’m back in the studio, and this time

with the help and sound engineering of Adrian Pumphrey.

The acoustic guitar tracks are done. Vocals are next on the

list. Female vocals by Rebekah Osborn after that, followed

by the accessory instruments. While all this is happening

my dude, John “the Middle Man” Gilpin, will be crafting the

beats.

That’s all for now, but I hope to post more about my time

in the studio. Thanks.

Not Yet

The last installment of the Blinds miniseries comes

from the last song of the album.

No matter what your beliefs are on life, death,

spirituality, etc., we all want peace. We all want

harmony in our lives. We long to be loved, we long

for justice, and we long for wholeness. Basically,

we long for everything that’s wrong to be made right.

Piano Tuner

The miniseries is coming to a close. This is one of the

last entries. This song was inspired during a piano tuning.

I watch for quite some time as the tuner carefully did his

work. It was mundane, and at the same time beautiful. I

watched and listened as the man loosened and tightened

every string meticulously in order to bring them back to their

original state and sound.

I Have Longed

The end is drawing near on the Blinds miniseries,

but it has been fun to shed some light, even if it’s

only a candles-worth, on these songs. This is

inspired by the song For a Place. I believe it was

the first song I wrote once I moved to Indy. I had

no plans to leave Bloomington, but the good that

has come from it is unexplainable. For one thing,

I have a wife now. I think moving was the right decision.
