Music Videos

While I’m saving money in order to record my next album, I still want to be producing new content. You know, for my “fans.” So far, I’ve made two videos. The first is what I call a music videoette for the song Victory. The second was a near-full-length video for Dwell.

IMG_2565Both videos were shot on my iPhone 6s using a Osmo mobile stabilizer and edited with iMovie. Pretty primitive equipment compared to the gear that’s on the market today, but if I don’t have the money to record an album, I definitely don’t have the money to spend on video equipment.

The simplicity and limitations of these videos parallel my music nicely. If someone commissioned me to write and record an album entirely with an acoustic guitar and my vocals, without any kind of layering, I would be ok with that. That’s how all my songs start out anyways.

I plan to make at least two more music videos. I’m just waiting for the sun to come out and the temperature to rise.

Full-Time Musician

The title says it all. I’m officially a full-time musician. After being laid

off from my full-time job, my wife and I made the decision for me to

pursue my music. I’ve never done anything this unsure and unstable.

It’s like I’m in the ocean, and there’s no land in sight. I don’t know

which way to swim, if I’m surrounded by sharks, or if I’ll ever be

rescued. Right now I’m looking for land, for shallow water, for a boat,

and anything that floats. I’m not drowning, but a bit overwhelmed at

the moment.

Here are a couple simple ways you can be a life vest at the moment:

  1. You can like/ follow me on social media (links below). It might
not feel like much but it means a lot.

    1. Facebook: to stay up-to-date.
    2. Instagram: to stay up-to-date with cool visuals.
    3. Twitter: to stay up-to-date with what the kids are doing.
  2. You can invite your friends to like/ follow as well.

That’s all for now. The game is afoot.

Victory – Song 1

I can’t believe this is my first post of the new year.

On the other hand, I’ve been living my life more in

the real world instead of online, so I guess I can believe

it.

My most recent and exciting endeavor is my 10-week

music residency at the Harrison Center for the Arts. I’m

in the middle of my third week, and I have to write and

record one song per week. Each song must be placed-based,

so it has to be about Indianapolis in some way. My first song,

which you can listen to here, is about Lady Victory atop the

Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

This is my first attempt at recording all by myself, so it’s

not perfect but it’s a great learning experience. With that

said, it turned out pretty good. I definitely have a greater

respect for sound engineers. Make sure to give it a listen

and stay tuned for the next 9 songs.

Noisetrade

A few days ago I decided to upload my music to Noisetrade.

I’d rather have people buy my music, but I’m a nobody. I’m

not a house-hold name, I don’t have an established rapport,

and I haven’t proven myself to be a great songwriter yet. In

order for these things to occur, I might have to give my music

away for a period of time.

It feels unjust to put my heart and soul, my life, into my music

just to give it away when it’s all said and done. But like I said

above, I haven’t earned the right to charge people for my music.

Now that it’s available for free, I hope people will discover, listen,

and the rapport will start to be built over time.

#Wordpainting

On January 1st, I posted about something new I was

going to try in 2015, which I titled “word painting.”

In the past, I primarily used journals to house my ideas,

chord progressions, lyrics, and sketches, but I thought

it would be fun to spice things up a bit. I found a brand

of paint swatches that were about the same size as the

pages in my journal.

Down the road, I would like to find a way to display

these in more of an artistic fashion. If anyone has an

idea, I would love to know.

Instafun with Instagram

I don’t post much on social media compared to other 26 year olds,

but lately I’ve posted a few things on Instagram that I’ve enjoyed.

First was the Salvador Dali inspired self-portrait that I titled Salivador

Dali. Second was the guitar video I titled Footloose. My most recent

was today, when I decided to share a sliver of my rendition of Amazing

Grace I came up with about 3 or 4 years ago. I’m sure there will be more

to come in the future. For now, I’ve added a link to my Instagram page,

so you can follow.

Studio Update

Just a quick update, I’m back in the studio, and this time

with the help and sound engineering of Adrian Pumphrey.

The acoustic guitar tracks are done. Vocals are next on the

list. Female vocals by Rebekah Osborn after that, followed

by the accessory instruments. While all this is happening

my dude, John “the Middle Man” Gilpin, will be crafting the

beats.

That’s all for now, but I hope to post more about my time

in the studio. Thanks.

Not Yet

The last installment of the Blinds miniseries comes

from the last song of the album.

No matter what your beliefs are on life, death,

spirituality, etc., we all want peace. We all want

harmony in our lives. We long to be loved, we long

for justice, and we long for wholeness. Basically,

we long for everything that’s wrong to be made right.
